Loch Luichart and the Falls of Luichart

Some photographs taken during a coach touring holiday based in Inverness in September 1979. Loch Luichart lies at the eastern apex of Wester Ross, just west of Garve. Some seven kilometers long, it drains into the River Conon and is fed from Strath Bran, alongside the main A832 Gorstan to Achnasheen road and the Kyle - Inverness railway.

Most of these pictures were taken near Lochluichart Station, where the outfall from the hydroelectric power station feeds the head of the loch. The layby there is an excellent viewpoint.

This sheep was so used to people that it had leaned to climb on board coaches to forage for titbits.
The Falls of Luichart...
...situated near the head of the loch...
...close to Lochluichart Lodge...
...and are the outfall from the Luichart hydroelectirc power station.
This was a favourite halt for coach drivers in 1979...
...and even though the main road is adjacent...
...it makes a wonderful spot for a picnic. Provided the midges leave you alone, of course.
