Russell Square
Russell Square is one of
Bloomsbury's
larger open spaces and is laid out as a park, with lawns, trees, a
fountain,
flowerbeds, a pergola, and a cafe at the north east corner. The
surrounding
area is high profile and includes the University of London, the British
Museum and a number of superior hotels. The name is a consequence of
the
square being part of the Bedford estate - "Russell" is the family name
of the Duke of Bedford and the surrounding area has many names
containing
"Bedford", "Russell", "Woburn" and "Tavistock".
